My husband and I live in Taylorsville but I work in Columbus and I had left for work that Saturday at about 7:45 and knew of the forecast calling for rain, but thought nothing much about it. My husband works in Taylorsville about 5 blocks from our house, and when he got ready to leave about 10am, he sent me a text message and said: Did you see the back yard? It is 2/3’s full of water. I told him that I had just let the dog out before I left and there and I saw nothing in the yard.
I went straight home when I got off work at noon and by the time I got to Taylorsville the first road in our neighborhood was impassible! Coming to meet me on the street was 2 full size dodge pickup trucks with people loaded all in the back that were being rescued from the waters. Behind me was a fire truck trying to get down the street to get out more people.
Wow! My husband said he had no idea the water was this high or this bad or he would have acted way before now. When my husband finally found a way to get to our house, to get our Dog and some things together, we had 8inches in our garage, and about 25 inches in the crawlspace. The water was over our A/C unit and knee deep in the front yard.
What a mess!
Finally the water started to recede and we were able to go get some more things, enough to seek shelter somewhere for the night. We ended up at my mom’s in Columbus, luckily no water got to her, but we were all glued to the TV all night and could not believe all the flooding in Columbus. It felt like a really bad dream! We are lucky to not have as much damage as some, but my heart goes out to those in our neighborhood and in Columbus who lost it all.
